Resident Life & Wellness
A Culture of Support
We believe that building a fulfilling career starts with building a sustainable and healthy life. This philosophy is woven into the fabric of our program, starting from the top.
“The young physician should look about early for a vocation, a pastime, that will take him [her/they] away from patients, pills, and potions.”
— Sir William Osler
Inspired by this wisdom, our leadership champions the belief that becoming a complete physician means caring for yourself as deeply as you care for your patients. This is more than just a concept; it’s a core part of our curriculum and culture.

Tools for Your Well-being
As part of Northwell Health, our residents benefit from one of the most comprehensive GME wellness support systems in the country. This commitment is tangible and accessible right here on our hospital campus.
Our on-site Integrative Health Service team offers all residents, faculty, and staff complimentary access to a suite of restorative services designed to help you de-stress and recharge, including:
Aromatherapy
Reiki
Reflexology
Meditation sessions, and more.
Life Beyond the Wards: Connection & Community
True wellness is about more than just surviving residency—it's about connection, joy, and the bonds you form with your colleagues. We work hard to foster a genuine community that supports each other both in and out of the hospital. Here are some of the ways we bring this philosophy to life:
Welcome-to-the-Family BBQs: The year kicks off with a barbecue at the Program Director's house, intentionally held before clinical duties start. This gives our entire new intern class a chance to connect and build friendships in a relaxed setting before day one. Additional BBQs are hosted by our Department Chair throughout the year.
Our annual Rising PGY-2 Retreat: A capstone day designed to prepare you for senior leadership. The experience includes a short group hike (about an hour) to a scenic overlook for a reflection session, followed by team-building activities at the Program Director's home. You’ll be joined by our Chief Residents, APDs, and the hospital's CMO for a day of direct mentorship.
Regular Group Events: To keep the community spirit strong, we sponsor frequent events including dinners at fantastic local restaurants and fun group outings like bowling nights, pottery painting, and local hikes.
Dual Graduation Celebrations: We honor the end of the academic year with two distinct events. An all-program graduation celebrates everyone's hard work as one family—including our preliminary residents who are with us for the year. Our graduating PGY-3s are then given the special recognition they deserve with a dedicated, more intimate graduation ceremony to honor their achievement.
